Yamuna Expressway is considered to be the finest highway in India where you will surely enjoy driving. Keep enjoying the scenic beauty enroute before you reach Agra.
On arrival to Agra, you will be taken directly to the Taj. The early morning view of Taj is finest example of beauty. Constructed by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in fond memory of his deceased wife Mumtaj Mahal, the monument represents the zenith of love. You will surely feel like in some other world while being there, and the experience will remain with you throughout your life.
Taj Mahal is counted amongst the UNESCO World Heritage Sites and also amongst the Seven Wonders of the World. These titles are completely justified by the beauty of Taj Mahal. It is said that Shah Jahan cut the hands of the people who constructed the Taj to make sure no one can recreate it. He was right – even after over a dozen attempts, no one could ever replicate the beauty that Taj Mahal bestows. Perhaps this is the reason that any person dreams of being here at least once in his life.
You may also enjoy a Tonga Ride (Horse Carriage) near Taj Mahal. It will also be a great experience. Enjoy the remarkable paintings and sculptures carved on the monument which is one of its kinds. After a refreshing lunch, move towards the next destinations.
The second attraction in list is Agra Fort, which is a massive fort located close to the Taj. The fort was constructed by great Mughal Emperor Akbar, who used it as his palace. The fort was primarily made of red sandstones and later was renovated with white marble. It has 21.4 meter high walls surrounding it and having four entry gates. Initially built as a military structure, later it was transformed into a palace. Shah Jahan was imprisoned in this fort by his son Aurangzeb and he died here.
The fort has many sections created within. Quila-i-Akbari is one of them which had also served as the capital of Mughal Empire. The main attraction of the fort is Diwan-i-Aam, also known as the Hall of Public Audience. This is the place where Mughal emperors used to listen to the problems of their people. Diwan-i-Khas is the private hall where rulers used to organize their Darbar. Sheesh Mahal is a palace beautifully carved with tiny mirrors. There are several mosques located inside the fort.
After visiting these destinations, we will drive back towards Delhi. On arrival to Delhi, you will be transferred to your hotel or the airport for your journey ahead.
